About Ricardo & Lola
Founders of Playa De Perros
Ricardo is an avid gardener with a deep love for animals, shaped by his childhood with his dog Tigi. After school, Tigi would walk the block while Ricardo skateboarded. In college, Ricardo developed a passion for nutrition and gardening, which extended to dog nutrition. He started cooking meals for Tigi, who often joined him in the garden before passing away at nearly 20 years old.
In 2020, life introduced Ricardo to Lolita, a mini poodle mix (likely a Poochon), who needed a foster home. Although Ricardo wasn’t initially looking for a new dog after the loss of Tigi, Lola quickly became family. Determined to give her an enriching life, Ricardo focused on her socialization, making sure she was well-walked and meeting other dogs through boarding. He also started cooking Lola's food and diving deeper into dog nutrition. Slowly, Lola began to open up, revealing her sweet nature. Meanwhile, Ricardo launched a small business as a substitute pet parent.
After nearly a decade at a local health food store, Ricardo decided to reignite his passion for pet care.
Ricardo’s mission is simple: to ensure dogs are happily walking, sniffing, and wagging their tails, with plenty of play and affection. He is committed to continuously learning about dog enrichment, applying this knowledge to make pets in his care feel truly loved. Ricardo understands that as pet parents, we’ll go the extra mile for our pets—and that it often takes a pack to properly care for them.
Playa de Perros embodies Ricardo’s belief in the power of the pack to nurture and support our pets. Its purpose is to step in when needed, giving dogs more time to explore, play, and thrive. We are a small, dedicated team of local pet sitters ready to help when life gets busy. Through Playa de Perros, Ricardo warmly invites all pet parents to join our pack!
